Joey Zhao is the Head of Asia-Pacific, Ex-Japan, at ABL Aviation’s Hong Kong Office. In this role, he manages relationships with airlines, lessors, and investors throughout the region.

Joey’s professional journey began as an HQ Management Trainee at the Bank of Communications Group, one of Asia’s largest banks. Through a rotation programme in Greater China and Hong Kong, he gained extensive knowledge of commercial banking, enhancing his expertise in the field.

Before joining ABL Aviation, Joey served as the Head of Commercial at Bocomm Aviation Leasing Ireland, where he showcased his leadership skills. He strengthened airline relationships in this role and led origination efforts in the EMEA and Americas regions. Notably, Joey was crucial in executing significant transactions, including sale-leasebacks (SLBs) with Volaris for A320neos, EasyJet for A320/1neos, and Wizz Air for A321neos.

Joey holds a Master’s Degree from Columbia University in New York. He has also studied in mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Ireland, further broadening his knowledge. His significant achievements and contributions to the industry have been recognised, including receiving the prestigious ’40 under 40′ distinction by Airline Economics in 2021.
